With a return of over $103 million from the Interstate 5 (I-5) Antlers Bridge Project, the Shasta region netted a negative balance of federal transportation fund use in Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2018-19. However, after eliminating funds returned, the following federal transportation fund amounts by use were authorized by transportation agencies in the Shasta region in Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2018-19. FFYs run from October 1 to September 30.
- Just under $52 million was authorized for state and local streets, roads and highways
- Almost $2 million was used for transit-related projects
- Over $0.5 million was spent for bicycle and pedestrian projects
State and local road project
information (including bicycle and pedestrian walkway projects) is provided by
Caltrans, and enhanced by adding SRTA Federal Transportation Improvement
Program (FTIP) numbering for all projects except for the emergency relief ones
which are not programmed through the FTIP. SRTA also collects transit
data from U.S. Department of Transportation grants awards reported by Shasta
County local public transit providers.
The $103 million return from the I-5 Antlers Bridge Project is the difference between what the project was anticipated to cost in 2009 ($235 million), and what the California Transportation Commission voted for the project, versus the $132 million bid award for the project. Construction on the project was completed June 2019.
